Vikinggrrl, aka Barbara, started in voiceover a little over a decade ago and loves doing narration, IVR, commercials, meditation, and more.
Barbara is also a theatre actor, director, and producer, a singer, a playwright, and a screenwriter. She is President of Brain Lint Productions which was formed in the late 90’s to produce a rather terrible version of Sam Shepard’s Angel City. Since then the productions have gotten better (honest), and Brain Lint has branched out into voice over and now film production.
Some of the shows she has performed in are: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamboat, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, Dear World, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, Crimes of the Heart, Our Town, Opening Night, and Jesus Christ Superstar, Anne of Green Gables the Musical (the last five she directed as well). Other directing experience includes: Table Manners for the RMTC Master Playwrights Festival, Recycled for the Fringe, short works from Generation Nexxt for Sarasvàti Productions’s FemFest, assistant directing If You Give a Mouse a Cookie for MTYP, and assistant directing Educating Rita for both RMTC’s Mainstage and touring productions.
Barbara’s screenplay, Super Plus Girl, is a comedy, and was originally meant just to make people laugh, but it also has an underlying theme of self acceptance – something many women have trouble with achieving. Super Plus Girl is part of a trilogy. The prequel, Big Happy is complete and ready for development, and she is working on the sequel. She also has completed a drama about ageing titled Out With The Old.
While she is not actively a viking herself, she is descended from them. Technically, she’s not a girl either (or a grrl), she’s a woman, but Vikingwoman didn’t sound as cool. Also, while she is a big fan of spelling things correctly, when she first chose the name Vikinggrrl years ago for an online forum, the name Vikinggirl was taken. The ‘grrl’ is not intended to be an aggressive growl, though … unless she’s hangry.
